13201 Seminar: The Capital Market in Israel

Credits: 3 graduate credits in MBA studies

Prerequisites: 36 graduate credits in Business Administration, including Accounting for Managers, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Financial Management, Corporate Law , and approval by the head of the MBA program.

Objectives: The seminar is intended for students interested in acquiring better familiarity with issues relating to the capital market and financial intermediaries in Israel, and provides a framework for students interested in writing a seminar paper related to this topic. The seminar will train students to analyze theoretical and empirical practices in the capital market, financial intermediaries, corporate finance, financial derivatives, regulatory agencies, risk management, and other relevant topics.

Students will acquire experience in empirical work, using theoretical frameworks and empirical tools. Students will select a topic of interest to them for the seminar paper and will employ economic models and tools acquired during their studies.

The conclusions of the paper will be reported to the class, and the final paper will be submitted to the instructor. Class attendance is required.

Topics: Saving and investment; The rationale for capital market; Structure of the financial system; Regulatory practices in Israel's capital market; Financial assets (ETF, ETN, options, futures, forwards, mutual l funds, pension funds, hedge); Processes and reforms in the Israeli capital market; Challenges to the Israeli economy with respect to the capital market; Investment management and risk management; The cyber space and the capital market.

Required class attendance

Presentation of paper to the class (power point)

Submission of final paper: Students will choose their seminar papers with consolation of the instructor and his/her approval. The paper will include a review of literature, the research problem, and the student's contribution. The contribution can be theoretical, empirical, comparative, suggestions for innovations and improvements, etc.
