10613 Giftedness and Special Talents

Credits: 4 intermediate credits in Education

Prerequisites: none

Recommended: Educational Psychology, and one of the following: Fundamental Issues in Special Education, Introduction to Psychology, Cognitive Psychology.

The course acquaints students with the area of intellectual giftedness and special talents, through central theories and empirical studies in the area. The course discusses the special needs and unique problems that characterize gifted children, from the cognitive, social and emotional point of view, and examines various internal and external factors which influence the realization of these children’s potential. The course presents various programs aimed at fostering gifted children and discusses their advantages and disadvantages.

The course is based on a book, a reader in Hebrew (approximately 400 pages) and a study guide. Links to Internet sites are provided for enrichment.
