Research Activity in the Department of Management and Economics

The Department of Management and Economics includes researchers in three discrete disciplines - economics, management, and accounting. Research work in the department deals with the following topics:

Economics
Economists in the department carry out research on public and political economics, intergenerational economic relationships, pensionary and social security systems, political economy, social choice theory and collective decision-making, game theory and economic theory, applied economics, behavioral economics, financing, the Israeli economy, and information economics.

Management
In terms of the number of faculty members, management is the largest field in the department. Among others, studies performed in the department deal with employee participation and democracy in the workplace, international culture in management, organizational commitment, social policy, studies of legislation on women's inclusion and promotion in the workplace and the economy, labor relations, decision-making, research management, management and projects, economics and human factor engineering, adapting psychological and cognitive aspects of the work environment to people, organizational behavior and human resource management, organizational commitment, comparative international research on human resource management practices and labor relations in the globalization era, privatization and the decline of collective labor agreements, information systems, the information economy, aspects of value of information in computational linguistics, analyzing and designing information systems, medical information systems, smart man-machine interfaces, and software engineering.
Some researchers are involved in studies in finance and business administration, and incentives for investors. In the field of organizational behavior, research is performed on behavioral finance, organizational behavior, organizational culture and critical organizational sociology, organizational aesthetics as a tool for employee control, behavioral aspects of investors in hazardous assets, and decision-making under conditions of uncertainty.
In the sphere of strategy, research is in fields such as strategic information systems, information product economics, business failures, non-learning organizations following crisis, organizational decay, crisis management, strategic change and financial constraints, organizational value loss, and business performance.
Other researchers focus on methodological studies of surveys and ethnic relationships as well as teaching technologies.

Accounting
In the field of accounting, department researchers are involved in managerial accounting, upgrading companies, economic and organizational aspects of integration, creating value, virtual teams, and information systems based on autonomous agents.

Various
The department also has a number of jurists who are engaged in research in various aspects of the law that interface with judicial research in other disciplines, such as law and economics (labor laws, company law, the right to strike and the labor courts' attitude to that right, the obligation for hearing cast on the employer prior to an employee's dismissal, protecting employees' rights in the framework of a company turnaround), law and literature, and also research on the connections between economic and societal characteristics of locality and delinquency.
