10592 Public Opinion and Democracy 1

Credits: 6 advanced credits in Communication or in Political Science

Prerequisites: 36 credits, including Mass Communication. Students must also fulfill all English requirements.

The course aims to provide a comprehensive discussion of public opinion as a process in various regimes and specifically in Israel, and to examine the mutual relations between public opinion and policy decisions, while noting the role of the media as an intermediary between the government and the public.

Topics: Introduction: definitions of public opinion; The creation and change of public opinion; The media and public opinion; Public opinion and policy; Polls and public opinion; Public opinion in war and peace; Public opinion in Israel.


1Students may write a seminar paper within the framework of this course, although it is not required.
