10395 Labor and Industrial Relations 1

Credits: 6 advanced credits in Management

Prerequisites: 36 credits, including Human Resource Management. Students must also fulfill all English requirements.

The course is designed to provide the student with knowledge and understanding of labor relations in Israel and in other countries. The course material includes two readers, in Hebrew and English, and a study guide. The articles in both readers are organized according to the ten units in the study guide and directly relate to the topics discussed in these units. The collection of articles and sources (court rulings, arbitration decisions, regulations and agreements) represent the central issues in the descriptive and research literature of labor relations. Each unit expands on the issue discussed and helps the student to identify and define the central problems addressed in the articles.

Topics: Selected theoretical approaches to labor relations; Government; Employers and employer organizations; Labor unions; Labor relations from an international perspective; Collective bargaining; Collective labor agreements; Labor disputes and their resolution; Strikes; Future trends.


1Students may write a seminar paper within the framework of this course, although it is not required.
