Teaching Services System

The Teaching Services System is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing all the teaching services of the Open University. It is also in charge of information and registration, the distribution of study material, loaning of teaching aids, organizing and coordinating activity in all study centers, administration of assignments and final exams, recording information on student achievement, follow-up on students and handling their questions and requests with regard to teaching services.



Administrative Center for Teaching Services

The center provides administrative services to the academic departments and gives telephone information to students via the Information Center. It is responsible for guiding the administrators of the academic departments and coordinating the work of the academic departments with the Teaching Services System. The department is responsible for printing and distributing final examination questionnaires for all courses, preparation of supplementary written materials for courses, drawing up contracts with tutors, and payment to tutors.



Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar provides information on students' achievements while observing the students' right to privacy. It serves as the secretariat for various academic committees that deal with scholastic achievements (the Committee for Accreditation of Prior Studies, the Study Program Approval Committee, the Committee for Graduate Studies, the Committee for Special Needs Students, the Disciplinary Committee). The Registrar's Office is responsible for drawing up an examination schedule and for summoning students to examinations. It is responsible for scheduling Amir and Amiram (English proficiency) examinations, dealing with the results of these examinations and placing students in appropriate courses according to data provided by other sources (universities and the psychometric exam). The Registrar provides services to students during their studies, such as issuing transcripts, certificates of entitlement for degrees, appeals, photocopies, personal passwords, confirmation of studies for high school students, confirmation of participation in examinations.



The Registration Center

The Registration Center deals with four major areas: Preparation of information concerning registration and tuition fees, and preparing and publishing registration regulations; Planning and carrying out the registration process, including the computerized registration system; On-going administrative dealings with students during their studies: requests for course changes, cancellation of registration; postponing studies, tuition refunds, special requests related to registration, and payment of tuition; Data collection and provision of information to various bodies within the University.



Department of Study Centers

The Department of Study Centers caters to requests for classrooms around the country and is responsible for the logistics and operation of all study centers: it finds possible locations, determines their suitability for use as study centers, coordinates the provision of learning aids requested by the tutors, schedules tutorial sessions according to the academic calendar, informs students of changes in the schedule, prepares and distributes reports on activities in the centers.



Department for the Organization of Examinations

The Department for the Organization of Examinations organizes and administers all OU examinations in Israel and abroad: locates test centers and confirms their availability; recruits and allocates monitors and supervisors for each center; assigns specific test locations in the various exam centers; assigns students to the different test locations by courses; is responsible for finding solutions for testing students with special needs and students abroad; supervises the examinations throughout the country; runs an examination hot-line at the OUI.
