Alternatives to Matriculation Examinations

Students may substitute Open University academic courses for matriculation exams in various subjects. In other words, students may take selected academic courses in lieu of specific matriculation subjects. The matriculation grade will then be based on the grades in academic courses which the student has successfully completed. A program of study will be designed for students, combining the high school curriculum with the desired academic course matriculation alternatives, provided this does not impair the student's educational activities, social involvement and high school studies. Students interested in taking academic courses as matriculation test alternatives should apply to their high school principal for the written approval of the school pedagogical council. Students must present an individual program of study which includes:

1.

Information concerning the current status of studies and requirements toward a matriculation certificate.

2.

A list of the academic courses the student wishes to take in lieu of the matriculation examination(s). Courses should be selected from the current list published by the Ministry of Education. A preliminary list can be found below. The list will be extended to include additional fields of study. Students interested in courses not included on the list should apply for written approval to the Ministry of Education's Chief Inspector for the specific subject (through the high school).
