55468 Practicum (Practical Training) in Teaching Computer Science 1

Prerequisites: none. Enrollment requires the approval of the faculty member responsible for teaching certificates.

Objective: To enable student teachers to observe and experience teaching Computer Science in high school.

Structure: Every student teacher is assigned a mentor teacher. Training includes the following components: Observation – acquaintance with the school and the classes, participation in school activities and structured observation (at least 28 hours) in the mentor teacher’s class; Teaching – at least 4 hours of practice teaching in the mentor teacher’s class, throughout the training period (September through April); Tutorials – two sessions are held during the training period. Issues related to teaching in the field and teaching cases are discussed. Participation in tutorials is mandatory; Assignments – the student teacher is required to submit critical observation reports and a final project.


1No academic credits are awarded for this course, but it is equivalent to 10 semester hours.
