55200 Integrated Methods in the EFL Classroom

The course is based on a reader edited by Dr. Esther Klein-Wohl.

The course is intended for junior high and high school English teachers. It can be taken within the framework of courses required for obtaining a teaching license from the Ministry of Education,1 or for enrichment and development of teaching skills.2 The course is composed of about ten online and five face-to-face meetings.

The course presents current approaches in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

Topics: The reflective teacher; Developing language skills in keeping with the English curriculum, the integrative approach to language teaching; Class tasks and projects; Classroom management and cooperative learning methods; The heterogeneous class, learning styles and multiple intelligences; Evaluating English teaching Internet sites.

Structure: Self-study through weekly readings; Submitting assignments and receiving feedback via the Internet; Practical exercises; Final project.


1Admission to studies toward a teaching license is dependent on terms specified in a letter of referral that teachers receive from the English Inspectorate at the Ministry of Education.

2For the course to be recognized for continuing education compensation [gmul bemaslul ishi], teachers need authorization in advance from the English Inspector in the district in which they work.
