20490 General Chemistry II, for Biology Students 1

Credits: 2 intermediate credits in Chemistry

Prerequisite: General Chemistry I

The course is based on a translation of chapters 10-13 of Chemical Principles: The Quest for Insight (3rd ed.), by P. Atkins and L. Jones (W. H. Freeman, 2005).

All students studying toward a degree in Life Sciences are required to take General Chemistry (20437). Students who wish to study the same material, but at a slower pace, can take General Chemistry I (20470) together with this course, General Chemistry II, for Biology Students (20490). This replaces the year-long General Chemistry courses (20477 and 20487). The course includes one mandatory laboratory session. Note: Tuition for this combination of courses is equal to tuition for one course.

Topics: Acids and bases; Aqueous equilibria; Electrochemistry; Chemical kinetics.
