Credits: 4 intermediate credits in Mathematics
Prerequisites: none
Required: Linear Algebra I
Recommended: One of the following: Infinitesimal Calculus I, Differential and Integral Calculus I
Authors: Abraham Orenstein, Eli Levin, David Chillag
This course is a continuation of Linear Algebra I (20109). Through the two courses, students acquire the knowledge of linear algebra imparted to first year Mathematics students in other Israeli universities. The course, which is required for Open University students majoring in Mathematics or Computer Science, may also interest students of Natural Sciences focusing on Physics.
Topics: Inner product spaces – inner product spaces, operators on inner product spaces, unitary diagonalization and the spectral theorem; Bilinear and quadratic forms – bilinear and quadratic forms, quadratic forms and their diagonalization, real quadratic forms; Canonic forms – the minimal polynomial, the primary decomposition theorem, Jordan canonical form.
