30206 Information Systems Design 1

Credits: 6 intermediate credits in Computer Science

Prerequisites: none

Recommended: Introduction to Computer Science or Introduction to Computer Science Using Pascal.

Recommended: Database Systems.

The main topics discussed in the course are: the information system, the life cycle of information systems, preliminary design of information systems; definition of alternatives for the information system, the feasibility study: economic evaluation, operational-organizational evaluation and technological evaluation; general design of the information system: outputs, inputs, data storage, data processing, acceptance tests, audit and control of information systems. The course presents a structured design approach.

Topics: What are information systems?; Determining system requirements; Preliminary design of information systems; Ariel Insurance Agency – design of an information system; Data organization and storage – background to feasibility study; Feasibility study; Information systems analysis (general design); Selected topics in managing information system development; Ariel Insurance Agency – feasibility study.

Among the requirements of the course is submitting a final project in two stages.
