10511 Strategic Information Systems 1

Credits: 3 advanced credits in Management

Prerequisites: 36 credits, including Introduction to Microeconomics and Planning, Analysis and Design of Information Systems. Students must also fulfill all English requirements.

The course is designed to develop the student’s ability to identify, analyze and plan information systems supporting organizational business-competitive strategy.

The course is based on a translation of S. Neumann, Strategic Information Systems: Competition through Information Technology, Macmillan, 1994.

Topics: What are strategic information systems?; Conceptual frameworks of strategic information systems; The impact of strategic information systems on industrial sectors, organizations and business strategy; The impact of strategic information systems on organizational structure and processes; The impact of strategic information systems on strategic alliances; Global strategic information systems; Achieving a competitive advantage employing information systems; Risks involved with strategic information systems; Organizational prerequisites for assimilating strategic information systems; Identifying opportunities for strategic information systems; Use of new information technologies for supporting strategic information systems.

The material includes twelve chapters (approximately 250 pages) and analyses of eleven case studies in Hebrew and English.


1Students may write a seminar paper in this course, although it is not required.
