10505 Strategy for a Multi-Business Corporation 1

Credits: 6 advanced credits in Management

Prerequisites: 36 credits, including Financial Theory: Financial Management of Business Firms, Marketing Management, Introduction to Accounting. The student must also fulfill all English requirements.

The purpose of this course is to develop students' ability to identify, analyze and plan a strategy for a multi-business corporation. Students are introduced to the main concepts related to managing a portfolio of business units, and to the seven leading approaches to business unit portfolio management; are exposed to a comparative analysis of the various approaches; perform an in-depth analysis of normative guidelines through an examination of various portfolio models; learn the use of an expert system for identifying and analyzing the strategy of a multi-business corporation; search for strategic alternatives; use an expert system for planning the strategy of a multi-business corporation; perform “What if” analyses.

The course is based on translations of selected articles, learning a computer strategy support system and the use of the system for identifying, analyzing and planning the strategy of a multi-business corporation.
