10362 Curriculum Design and Evaluation 1

Credits: 6 advanced credits in Education

Prerequisites: 36 credits, including Curriculum Design, Development and Implementation; one of the following: Individualized Instruction, Challenges of School Management, and one of the following: Educational Psychology, Introduction to Psychology. Students must also fulfill all English requirements.

Recommended: Cognitive Psychology, Introduction to Statistics for Students of Social Sciences I, Introduction to Statistics for Students of Social Sciences II.

The course presents and analyzes theories, studies, models and practical projects pertaining to curriculum design, implementation and assessment. The course is based on articles in Hebrew and in English (approximately 600 pages), and is organized in five topics specified below.

Objectives: To provide tools for analyzing ideologies and structures of knowledge of curricula; To analyze alternative models of curriculum development and assessment and consider their advantages and disadvantages in various educational settings; To discuss the complexity of the interaction between the teacher and professional curriculum development; To analyze possible future developments (integration of computers, change in educational frameworks) and their impact on curriculum development; To analyze case studies of curriculum development and assessment.

Topics: Educational policy; Planning studies; Psychological principles in curriculum planning; Implementing curricula; Evaluating curricula.


1Students may write a seminar paper within the framework of this course, although it is not required.
